As a family owned park, Buck Yeats is reliant on good environmental stewardship to meet the needs and expectations of all who enjoy our park and to ensure a sustainable business.

We are therefore committed to integrating responsible and proactive, sustainable practices into our daily operations. We aim to comply with local and national environmental legislation and regulations and, where possible, meet the environmental objectives of the Lake District National Park in which we operate.

We will work to identify, manage, and minimise the environmental impact of our activities in every part of our business, focusing on the effective and efficient use of resources, energy and fuel, minimising waste and air emissions, and preventing pollution. We aim to:

Protect the landscape
Our park is located in some of the most beautiful scenery in England. We are committed to sustaining and enhancing the landscape through environmental management planning and sustainable forestry practices. We actively support our environmental partner, the Lake District Foundation, by encouraging and soliciting donations, to raise both awareness and monies to assist with local environmental projects. We also work with schemes such as David Bellamy to promote best sustainable practices in every aspect of park management.

Ensure sustainable buildings
We will consider the environmental sustainability of any new buildings and developments we undertake and aim to meet, and where possible, exceed, the standards of design and sustainability required by the Lake District National Park Authority. When refurbishing properties, we will always seek to improve environmental standards and energy efficiency to reduce carbon and water use.

Reduce waste
We seek to monitor and improve our waste hierarchy and move towards a zero waste business. Most of the waste we generate is reused or recycled and we aim to reduce our use of landfill. We also aim to keep our holiday parks litter free and encourage our visitors to dispose of their waste in bins and our recycling facilities. We dispose of all sewage and waste in compliance with national regulations.

Source sustainably
We stock a selection of local produce in our Park shops. We aim to provide a proportion of retail space for local crafts and gifts in our Peter Rabbit shops.

Encourage sustainable travel
We encourage our employees and visitors to adopt sustainable travel practices in the Lake District and work with funding partners such as Go Lakes travel to promote best practice and sustainable transport connectivity. We have electric vehicles for hire at our holiday parks and operate an employee cycle to work scheme. We actively promote and encourage use of public transport routes, walking and cycle routes at all our Parks.

We will continuously review and improve our environmental performance. This policy will be reviewed annually for its continued relevance by our Board of Directors and published on our website.
